Spumoni in Heaven

Spumoni in Heaven

It is with much sadness that I have to report two friends have joined Spumoni in heaven recently. Wilson who was the dear companion of my close friends Michael and Jeab passed away after a short illness in Thailand.

Readers of this blog will remember that Wilson was featured just a few months ago. He was a delightful and very active feline. His energy and love of the outdoors made him a great companion in the back yard and garden in Berkeley. While the plane flight to Thailand was pretty stressful, he adapted quickly to his new home.

The other friend who joined Spumoni in heaven is Camille Marie Smith. Known affectionately as Cam Cam, she was one of the sweetest and most loving creatures ever to walk the earth. In many respects her personality was quite similar to Spumoni. She loved being with the humans that she was closest to and was famous for being a lap cat.

Cam Cam went through a slow steady decline during the past year before joining Spumoni in heaven. She maintained her happy and friendly spirit right up until the end. It was very difficult for all who knew her to learn of her passing the day after Christmas.

When I think of Spumoni in heaven I know it is only a matter of time before I am there with him. But I can feel his spirit with me every day. The love and affection that he gave to me over the years will never be forgotten. No one ever spent more time with me than Spumoni. Whether I was working, sleeping, eating relaxing on the sofa or doing any one of a number of things he liked to be with me.

Losing a longtime companion like Spumoni, Wilson or Cam Cam is very difficult emotionally for those who were close to them. It reminds me of the final line in the song Box of Rain by the Grateful Dead.  “Such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be here.”
